More info

OAR (EKU, EIKU) KAMIKAZE PROFESSIONAL KOBUDO, hand-made, oak hard wood.

163 cm / approx. 5' 4".

Processed with impregnation wood preservative and insecticide varnish, that doesn't not leave a film onto the wood. As a result, the wood is free for moving without cracks and pealing and it doesn't stick on the hands and has a velvet touch.

Dimensions: Width 8,6 cm. Length 163 cm. Handle diameter is approx. 2,9 cm.

The Okinawan style of oar is called an eku (this actually refers to the local wood most commonly used for oars), eiku, iyeku, or ieku. Noteworthy hallmarks are the slight point at the tip, curve to one side of the paddle and a roof-like ridge along the other. One of the basic moves for this weapon utilizes the fact that a fisherman fighting on the beach would be able to fling sand at an opponent. While not having the length, and therefore reach, of the bo, the rather sharp edges can inflict more penetrating damage when wielded properly. Eku techniques are the same as those of the Bo –but it takes a lot more skill, so that the wrist can turn to use the correct part of the weapon.
